In December of 2024, I was notified of my acceptance to a Spring Travelearn at my university.
In March of 2025, I was ready (packed and eager!) to spend a week experiencing Ireland studying travel writing.
So there I went… I, alongside two professors and fourteen equally ecstatic classmates, were ready to exercise every bit of our time exploring.
And what a privilege it was to visit the James Joyce tower, go on a cab tour in Belfast, wake up early to hike the Howth Cliff walk, sail the Irish sea for the soul purpose of taking a closer look at Ireland’s Eye, listen our guides as he shares town myths about W.B. Yeats, walk around Trinity College pretending to be a enrolled student, enter many, many, many museums, get a copy of Ulysses stamped where chapter one is set, eat pizza at Doom Slice (highly recommend), learn from an experienced travel writer, see a drag show at The George, visit Dublin’s first independent bookstore, see a rainbow in the Irish sky, always sit on the second floor of the bus, order a Guinness and Bangers and Mash at a pub, laugh with friends, loose your bus pass, meet in the hotel lobby for a 9pm class, secretly cry at the final class dinner…and then, write about it.
